Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme

The Ministry of Disaster Management has initiated the task of preparing the comprehensive disaster management plan for 2013-2015. Required data/information to prepare this plan has been collected by now, and the plan is being prepared at present.

Commemoration of 7th National Safety Day

Arrangements have been made by the Ministry of Disaster Management in collaboration with Disaster Management Centre to commemorate the National Safety Day 2012, centering around Badulla District this year under the main theme ‘Towards a Safer Sri Lanka’ through the sub theme ‘be aware and prevent disasters

alt Due to severe disasters experienced during last few years loss of lives and damaged to properties are increasing. The ministry strongly believes that the impacts of disasters could be minimized only by a coordinated approach of all public and private sector organizations and mainstreaming disaster risk reduction in to sectoral programmes and projects.

Disaster management is on 24 hour vigil

Addressing a media conference held at the ministry of Disaster management today(1st Nov 2012), the Minister of Disaster Management, Mahinda Amaraweera stated that necessary instructions have been given to the District Secretaries to provide relief and facilities to the people affected by the prevailing inclement weather condition.
