Development of Comprehensive Disaster Management Plan for Sri Lanka

altDue to severe disasters experienced during last few years loss of lives and damaged to properties are increasing. The ministry strongly believes that the impacts of disasters could be minimized only by a coordinated approach of all public and private sector organizations and mainstreaming disaster risk reduction in to sectoral programmes and projects.

The new disaster management programme will cover the period of 2013 to 2017, aligned with the national priorities and annual budget process; implemented through multiple agencies and coordinated by the Ministry; with a strong monitoring and reporting system.  It is also envisaged that this programme will provide a sound basis for matching donor support and to minimize duplication of efforts by agencies. In order to initiate this process a series of consultation is organized by this Ministry. The first consultation workshop was held on 8th February 2013 with the participation of the Chief Secretaries of the Provincial Councils and District Secretaries
