COMMEMORATION OF THE NATIONAL SAFETY DAY - 2013

altThe National Safety Day is commemorated in every year with the view of creating an attitudinal change among the public towards the disaster management cycle which is composed the essential components in the development planning process of a country that are namely disaster prevention, mitigation, preparedness and response.

26th of December in each year was declared as the "National Safety Day" following the cabinet decision 06/0984/208/008 dated 31st May 2006, and amendments were made to declare the same as the " National Safety Day" by the cabinet decision 12/1610/548/007 dated 13th December 2012.

The National Safety Day has been commemorated for seven years continuously since 2006, centerung around Galle, Rathnapura, Kandy, Kurunagala, Jaffna, Batticaloa and Badulla districts respectively.

Accordingly,  the Ministry of Disaster Management made the arrangements to commemorate the National Safety Day 2013 centering around Kalutara district under the main theme "Safer Sri Lanka" and the sub theme "Join Hands in unity to prevent disasters". The national Commemoration programme was held at the Auditorium of the District Secretariat, Kalutara.
